Montgomery County Opioid Settlement Information

According to data from the University of Tennessee's SMART Initiative, an agency of the Institute for Public Service, opioid-related fatal overdoses in Montgomery County have risen significantly over the past decade. The peak occurred in 2021, with a total of 117 deaths—more than two per week. Although there has been a slight decline in overdose-related fatalities since 2023, the epidemic of these illicit and highly dangerous substances continues to evolve and threaten public safety.

In response to this ongoing crisis, Montgomery County, along with other Tennessee counties, has received settlement payments from national lawsuits targeting opioid manufacturers, commercial retailers, their respective public relations partners, and other affiliates. These funds, in turn, are expected to be invested into programs, projects, and efforts to curb the ongoing effects of the opioid crisis. 

NEW – Montgomery County Public Opioid Application  

Montgomery County is pleased to announce the opening of its first public opioid application cycle. Interested organizations should download and complete all three documents, listed below.  

All proposals are due by November 2, 2026 at 11:59 PM CST, no exceptions.  

The application contains detailed instructions and important information regarding the program.
