Montgomery County, Tennessee is committed to providing digital content that is accessible to all residents and visitors, including people with disabilities. We are actively working to improve the accessibility and usability of our website and online documents and to support access through recognized accessibility standards and tools.

Our goal is to make website content and digital documents accessible in alignment with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. WCAG is an international standard developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and is organized around four core principles: content should be Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust. WCAG 2.1 Level AA includes requirements such as providing text alternatives for images, maintaining sufficient color contrast, supporting keyboard navigation, using clear structure and headings, making forms easier to use, and improving compatibility with assistive technologies such as screen readers. 

To support website accessibility, Montgomery County uses AudioEye to help identify and address accessibility issues through continuous monitoring, automated fixes for some issues, and additional expert support for issues that require manual review or custom remediation. AudioEye helps us improve access, but accessibility also requires ongoing testing, content review, and human oversight. 

To improve access to PDF documents posted on our website, Montgomery County uses DocAccess to provide accessible HTML transcript versions of public PDF files. DocAccess is designed to convert PDF content into a more accessible, screen-reader-friendly format aligned with WCAG 2.1 AA, helping users navigate, search, and interact with document content more effectively. 

We recognize that accessibility is an ongoing effort. In addition to using accessibility tools, Montgomery County continues to review website content, documents, forms, images, and navigation patterns to improve access for people using assistive technology, keyboard-only navigation, captions, transcripts, magnification tools, and other accessibility supports.
