     The Clerk and Master’s office of Montgomery County, Tennessee serves the Chancellor, Attorneys and Montgomery County citizens by providing high quality, courteous, and responsive court services. Constantly evolving laws, higher court decisions, rules and regulations will continue to cause significant and unanticipated increases in workload associated with initiating and trying cases.

     When people come to our office, they are often dealing with some of the most difficult situations of their lives. They deserve respect, courtesy, accurate information and peace of mind knowing that our office is going to handle their case correctly.  Our goal is to help build confidence in the administration of Chancery Court business.  Often individuals are going through painful divorces, the loss of a loved one, or some other domestic issue.  Some are fighting to protect their livelihood, home or a beloved family member from being taken advantage of or harmed while others are trying to put their lives back together and need guidance on where to go for help. We recognize that our most difficult customer is probably going through one of the worst times in their lives and they don’t know what to do.  Often they don’t understand the court process, they don’t know the terminology, it’s confusing and it can be expensive. Most often people utilize the services of attorneys which is always in their best interest and why we highly encourage it.  Our staff is mindful that each attorney or their staff that comes into our office is there representing someone in need. 

     We are public servants; it is never our intention to make access to the Chancery Court difficult. Our Clerks strive to be as helpful as possible but are mindful that providing legal advice is prohibited as they are not attorneys. It is our mission to serve the residents of Montgomery County with courtesy, accuracy and efficiency.

Chancellor Ben Dean, Presiding

Chancellor Ben Dean

Ben graduated from the University of Memphis School of Law in 2005. He was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in the fall of 2005 and practiced with the Batson Nolan firm in Clarksville and Springfield as an associate attorney in the firm’s litigation section until 2011.  From 2011 until the 2022 election cycle, Ben operated the Dean Law Firm in Springfield TN, serving primarily Robertson County, and also practiced regularly in Davidson, Sumner, Cheatham, and Montgomery Counties. Prior to being elected Chancellor of the 19th Judicial District, Ben maintained a general practice of law in the areas of probate, family law, criminal law, social security disability and civil litigation (focusing primarily on plaintiff’s personal injury and federal civil rights cases.) In his 18 years practicing law, Ben has been in the Tennessee State Trial Courts in over 20 different counties.  He is admitted to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee and had an active federal practice prior to his election as Chancellor of the 19th Judicial District.  Ben lives in Springfield with his wife, Diana, who works as a manager for GE Healthcare in the field of Nuclear Medicine Technology (Radiology).

Kimberly graduated from Michigan State University College of Law in 2003.  She was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in the Fall of 2003 and the Kentucky Bar in the Spring of 2004.  Kimberly began her career in private practice at the Kennedy Law Firm, before moving on to Assistant General Counsel for the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.  From there, she transitioned to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation as a field agent for Robertson and Montgomery County.  Kimberly then moved to the Office of the District Attorney where she spent the next 18 years focusing on violent crime and crimes against children.  Kimberly lives in Robertson County with her family.
