General Crimes Unit

The General Crimes Unit is responsible for investigating a wide range of offenses involving both crimes against persons and crimes against property. Investigations into crimes against persons include aggravated assault, robbery, kidnapping, and homicide, including both active and cold cases. The unit plays a vital role in homicide investigations, managing cases from the initial response through final resolution.

In addition, the unit investigates significant property-related offenses such as aggravated burglary, theft, vandalism, embezzlement, and fraud. In recent years, investigators have seen an increase in complex forgery and fraud cases, which require detailed financial analysis, coordination with financial institutions, and thorough documentation to identify suspects and support prosecution.

Throughout each investigation, members of the General Crimes Unit conduct comprehensive victim and witness interviews, perform suspect interrogations, collect and analyze evidence, and prepare detailed case files to ensure cases are effectively presented for prosecution.

Special Victims Unit (SVU)

The Special Victims Unit (SVU) is dedicated to investigating crimes involving vulnerable populations. This unit primarily focuses on serious offenses such as rape, sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking, and crimes against the elderly.

SVU investigators receive specialized training in trauma-informed interviewing, evidence collection for sensitive cases, and victim advocacy. Their work often involves close collaboration with forensic specialists, medical professionals, social service agencies, and prosecutors to build strong cases while ensuring victims receive the support they need throughout the judicial process.

Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC)

The Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit investigates cases involving the sexual exploitation of children facilitated through technology. These investigations include online enticement, grooming, and the production, distribution, and possession of child sexual abuse material.

ICAC investigators are members of the national ICAC Task Force and work in partnership with local, state, and federal agencies. They collaborate with forensic experts, social services, and prosecutors to deliver a coordinated, multi-jurisdictional response to these crimes.

Investigators receive advanced training in undercover online operations, open-source intelligence, peer-to-peer network investigations, digital evidence preservation, and digital forensics. They conduct detailed interviews, interrogations, and evidence analysis, and prepare comprehensive case files to support successful prosecution.
