Montgomery County is excited to announce the donation of approximately 230+/- acres of land from the Clarksville Montgomery County Community Health Foundation (CMCCHF), providing the space for a new county park dedicated to improving community health, promoting active lifestyles, and expanding access to outdoor recreation.

Located along Matlock Road, near the southern border of Montgomery County, the expansive approximately 230-acre property features rolling hills, mature hardwood forests, open fields, multiple lakes and ponds, creeks, natural springs, and 3300 feet of frontage along the Cumberland River. This rare property will create a wealth of opportunities for residents of all ages to enjoy the outdoors, participate in physical activities, and spend quality time with family and friends.

The donation represents a significant investment in the long-term health and well-being of Montgomery County residents, helping them connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors.

Historic Investment in Community Wellness
“This is the largest project our Foundation has ever undertaken. We are confident this gift to Montgomery County will provide opportunities for generations of residents to have access to free outdoor activities in a beautiful and spacious park that includes river frontage and even a lake. The mission of the Clarksville Montgomery County Community Health Foundation is to improve the health of our community, and this very large park will offer many opportunities for physically active time outdoors,” said Executive Director of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation, Rosalind Kurita.

Lasting Investment in the Community
“We are incredibly grateful to the Clarksville Montgomery County Community Health Foundation for this generous donation and their investment in Montgomery County. This park will provide a place for families to get outside, stay active, and enjoy time together while creating lasting memories. It’s an investment in our community that will benefit our residents and visitors for generations to come,” said Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden.

Expanding Outdoor Opportunities
“The new Matlock Park will create opportunities for residents of all ages to improve their health and well-being through outdoor recreation, physical activity, and time spent in nature. Park amenities will be evaluated as part of the master planning process, with a focus on providing outdoor spaces for everyone to enjoy nature through walking, sports, water activities, and family recreation that encourages active, healthy lifestyles.

Montgomery County Parks and Recreation’s goal is to create an expansive one-of-a-kind space in nature where people of all ages can get outside and spend time with family and friends. As plans take shape, the County will explore a variety of recreational opportunities and amenities that make the most of the property’s natural beauty and give the community a place to gather, relax, and enjoy the outdoors for years to come,” said Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Director Sally Read.

Project Timeline and Next Steps
If approved at the November Commission meeting, Montgomery County will move forward with planning, engineering and design work for the property as Phase 1 of the property development.

Phase 1 includes: property acquisition, engineering work, securing grant funding, design and phased construction planning:
