Family Fun, Career Info, and County Services Event July 24

County Connections, hosted by Montgomery County Parks and Recreation, is set for Thursday, July 24, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at Downtown Commons, 215 Legion Street — a free evening event perfect for families, job seekers, and anyone looking to connect with their local community. 

Enjoy live music by local artist Joel Nulty and visit informational booths hosted by Montgomery County Government departments. Learn more about county services, local initiatives, and job opportunities in a relaxed, after-hours setting. 

Special attractions include: 

  • Touch-a-Truck- Explore and touch real county vehicles, like tractors, ambulances, police cars, fire trucks and more. 
  • Animal Control’s Pet Adoption Trailer – Meet adoptable pets and maybe even leave with a new furry friend! 
  • Wade Bourne Nature Center – Get up close with some of their in-house animals and learn about local wildlife. 

Whether you're new to the area or just looking for a fun way to spend the evening, County Connections offers something for everyone. If you can’t make it to Veterans Plaza during the day, this is your chance to experience everything Montgomery County has to offer — after hours at the Downtown Commons.

Montgomery County Holiday Hours Observed in Honor of Independence Day

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – Montgomery County Government Offices will be closed on Friday, July 4 in observance of the Fourth of July Independence Holiday.

Montgomery County partners with the City of Clarksville to host the Independence Day Celebration, happening on July 3 at Liberty Park. With over 10,000 residents expected to attend, to help reduce traffic, County offices will close at noon on July 3.

All County offices will reopen during normal business hours on Monday, July 7.

Wishing everyone a safe and joyful Independence Day as we celebrate our great nation.

Franklin Street Closed between 2nd and 3rd Street Wednesday, July 9

Montgomery County Government, in coordination with the City of Clarksville Street Department, will be closing Franklin Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets starting at 7:00 AM on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, to facilitate roof replacement on the Montgomery County Courts Center. The roadway is anticipated to be open to all traffic by 11:00 AM.

A crane and all associated equipment that will be used to accomplish this replacement will block this segment of the street and parking for this important project for the County.  

Drivers should be aware of this closure downtown and plan alternate routes.

Montgomery County Hires Director of Emergency Management Agency

Steve Batten has been selected as the Director of the Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

With nearly 30 years of public safety experience, Batten is a seasoned public leader recognized for his operational excellence, strategic planning, and unwavering commitment to community safety. 

Before joining the Montgomery County EMA, he retired from Clarksville Fire Rescue with 28 years of distinguished service, where he held key leadership roles in emergency response, personnel management, and fire service operations.

After retiring from Clarksville Fire Rescue, Batten served as an Emergency Management Specialist (Recovery) and Program Delivery Manager with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), where he supported disaster recovery operations by coordinating program delivery and ensuring effective communication between FEMA and impacted communities.

Throughout his career, Batten consistently enhanced departmental efficiency, led complex emergency operations, and fostered strong partnerships across the community to promote preparedness and resilience. His ability to lead with integrity and build effective teams has earned him a reputation as a trusted and respected figure in the public safety arena.

“I am pleased to welcome our new Emergency Management Director. Steve Batten brings a wealth of experience from both the local and federal levels. His leadership and expertise in emergency response will be a great asset as we continue to strengthen and expand our resources and to keep Montgomery County safe and prepared, said Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden. As we welcome a new EMA Director, I want to sincerely thank Director Ed Baggett for his many years of dedicated service to Montgomery County. His experience and steady leadership—especially during times of crisis—have left a lasting impact on our community. We wish him a happy and well-earned retirement!"

Steve holds an associate’s degree in Fire Science along with numerous state certifications. He is also continuing his education in the field of Emergency Management to enhance his ability to serve the community during times of crisis.

"After serving with FEMA and supporting disaster recovery efforts nationwide, I am grateful for the opportunity to return to Clarksville Montgomery County and use my knowledge and experience to serve the community I call home," Batten said.
